On-Call Photshoot

The cornstarch concoction that would soon be in my hair
Sam mixing my cornstarch hair color

Getting my hair painted

Food and pampering, how could it get better?
Sam and I have done a lot of photo shoots together, and since I was stuck in the building all day/night we decided to do a photo shoot in my room. We originally tried to color my hair with a cornstarch mix, but that didn't really work, so we tried just painting it. It turned out pretty good, and I got a lot of complements on it during rounds! The pictures turned out really good, I'll post some soon :)

Creative Halloween Costumes

He looks like like a clone of one of the cops that reports to our building

Social media sites, what a great idea!
I had to work the desk Halloween night from 8-11 so I got to see the bulk of our freshman going out for the night. Most of the outfits were predictable and a lot of them were culturally appropriating/offensive, but there were a few throughout the night that were actually creative!

Breaking the Binary Nail Painting Party

Painted both these guys' nails

They even let me add a glittery/sparkly overcoat

Andy (RA on the 1st Floor) with some residents that passed by and decided to join our party

So many colors :)

Davis and his fabulous nails!
Andy and I put on a Breaking the Binary Nail Painting Party for his an my wing. Our planning was a little behind and we forgot to submit a P.O. (purchase order), so we had to scavenge  for snacks, but we ended up getting some substantial snack-age for our program. We painted nails and discussed the male/female gender binary, and gender roles as constructed by society. Surprisingly a lot of Andy's residents actually came, it ended up being a pretty good program.

Bike to Lake Mary

Post Bike Ride

Feeling Those Endorphins
Lauren and I went on a bike ride to Lake Mary. We trucked it 22 miles, on our Walmart bikes, in the beautiful sunshine to get there and it was totally worth it! It felt so good to get out and get moving! It took a little over 2 hours of biking (there and back) and I had some fabulous and much needed quality time with my iPod and Regina Spektor. Couldn't have spent the day any better!

Basically.......My Residents Are Great

I woke up from a nap to be greeted by my residents, who had this cheer for me. It was amazing.

Waste Survey

Got inspired to read the newspaper!
They were doing a waste survey

My Napkin Note

Separating the waste into compostable and non-compostable waste
You can write a question on a "Napkin Note" and if your napkin gets picked then "Napkin Boy" answers it. Some people just write comments or draw pictures but most ask questions. I've written a fair amount of them.  I usually ask for more vegetarian options. Also, today they were doing a waste survey and collecting all the food people throw away and were going to do a study with it. I thought it was really great they were taking a step towards sustainability, because as much as NAU totes the word "sustainability", our campus is really behind on the sustainable curve.

Flapjacks and Flannel

Pancakes! I skipped out of the bacon pancakes but I grabbed some original and chocolate chip ones!

Me dressed up as Norm the Health Nuts mascot, trying on one of the beards that were being given away

About to get my rockclimb on.

Didn't make it too far haha

Rockclimbing in a squirrel suit is a lot harder than it looks!

Tori and I
C.H.E.C. (campus health education club) put on the event, Flapjacks and Flannel, to provide an alternative to Tequila Sunrise, so people opting for an alcohol free activity would have something fun to do. It was the first year we put the event on and it was a huge success. Over 800 people came and got pancakes. There were even bacon pancakes (they were a hit!) We also had a rock wall and photo booth. Can't wait to do it again next year!
